- Stop looking at skinny people and assuming they’re healthy. Or happy. I know plenty of men and women who look ‘pretty good’ and treat their bodies like garbage. And with that tends to come an underlying obsession with what they eat (or don’t eat) and how they look.
2. Take it with a grain of salt… don’t believe everything you read! Here’s what I found when I searched ‘celebrity diet tips‘ (i.e. some very worrying advice!)
“I drink green juice because I don’t like vegetables, at least then I’ve had something green…”
“I turn the shower on cold for two minutes and I feel that it makes me look a little bit skinnier”
“I go vegan for 21 days to lose weight” – Pretty sure that’s missing the point of veganism but hey...
3. Make your diet easy by making only one decision. To empower yourself.
How to empower yourself to lose weight:
I’m talking about learning how to make good decisions based on your own knowledge of nutrition and your own body awareness and intuition.
Is it a 21 day plan? No. Will it shrink belly fat in 7 days? Well maybe but it depends on how much belly fat you start with! However, the principle is this… once you know something – its very hard to un-know it! Which means the changes you make by knowing more about nutrition will be lifelong and easy because you truly believe in them.
Start by investigating (using the grain of salt rule!) some of your favourite foods or places to eat. Read a nutrition book. Talk to a friend who inspires you. Check out a cooking class. Attend a seminar or workshop on healthy eating. Talk to a (holistic) health professional about your diet. The more you know, the more you will start to feel in control of your own health.
